Part-Time/Substitute Teaching
After five years working at Makuhari International School, I decide to finish working their to focus on my studies and seek new challenges and to grow and develop as a teacher. Since Makuhari International Schools follows the Japanese School Year, which is from April to March, I had to go into substitute teaching as the other International Schools in Japan follow a different academic calendar. I found work at the below schools and have enjoyed my time there. But now I'm looking to explore other opportunities oversea's.
Tokyo International School PYP and MYP.
At TIS they base their teaching on a ‘relevant learning model".
This approach develops habits of inquiry which in turn confidence, positive human characteristics and empower students to be actively engaged in learning.
This learning is relevant to a changing world.
WHAT DO OUR STUDENTS LEARN?
Beyond the standard subject areas that prepare students to successfully transfer onto higher educationTIS prepares students for life. Common areas of focus are solving global challenges, understanding the processes of innovation and design and other areas relevant to constant change.
HOW DOES LEARNING TAKE PLACE AT TIS?
Their students are guided through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IBPYP) and Middle Years Program (IBMYP) frameworks which integrate subjects into units of inquiry. Students are active learners who are empowered to make decisions relating to their learning inside and outside of the classroom. At TIS they use current inquiry-based methodologies.
HOW DO WE KNOW IF OUR STUDENTS ARE LEARNING?
Assessment is an ongoing process. It involves reflecting upon and summarising existing knowledge to deepen acuity of comprehension. Students are regularly assessed using a wide range of tools to ensure we are viewing students holistically
Nishimachi International School.
Nishimachi believes that education should promote the well-rounded development of individuals through the cultivation of their intellectual, creative, personal, social, and physical abilities. The school is committed to educating both Japanese and foreign students to be international and independent thinkers. We believe that learning a second language provides the opportunity to grow beyond a single culture. We believe that classroom and co-curricular activities should foster sensitivity to, and respect for, individual talents as well as differences. We believe that every student must learn to function both as an individual and as part of a group. Our ultimate goal is that every Nishimachi student learn to live harmoniously in, and contribute to, world society.
