About Zoo-phonics
Academy Zoo-phonics Academy programs focus on developing children’s English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Our children first begin by learning the sounds and body signals from “a” to “z” in order to quickly master phonemic awareness. The use of body signals connecting to the 26 animals is a kinaesthetic method which makes learning the alphabet easy, brings fun and excitement into the classroom, and motivates children to learn. The Zoo-phonics Multi-sensory Language Arts Program is a kinaesthetic, multi-modal approach to learning all aspects of language arts, including vocabulary development and articulation, based on phonics and phonemic awareness. The principle of Zoo-phonics maximises understanding, memory, utilisation and transference to all areas of the reading, spelling and writing process in a playful and concrete manner. Zoo-phonics is a method developed to make children strong readers and spellers using a “phono” (hearing), “oral” (speaking), “visual” (seeing), “kinaesthetic” (moving), and tactile (touching)—whole brain approach. Students actually learn the sounds of the alphabet and advanced phonemic concepts through an easily understood, concrete method of presentation. Zoo-phonics uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters for ease in memory. A related body movement is given for each letter. This concrete approach cements the sounds to the shapes of the letters. Lowercase letters and their sounds are taught first (needed 95% of the time in text), capital letters and letter names are taught later. Zoo-phonics also provides a springboard for all other academia such as math, art, music, cooking/nutrition, social studies, science, grooming, physical education and sensory/drama. Every aspect of the program has been field-tested and found to be effective. Educational research repeatedly supports the focus of phonics in early reading programs, as well as the educational benefits of pictorial mnemonics and kinaesthetic approaches to learning that are unique to Zoo-phonics.
Currently Zoo-phonics® is used throughout the United States and internationally as a highly effective language arts program.

About Zoo-phonics©
Zoo-phonics was developed by two elementary school teachers in California, U.S.A. in the early 1980s and is used in many preschools, kindergartens, and elementary schools around the world. In June, 2001, a non-profit organisation called “Educators for Phonemic Awareness” chose Zoo-phonics as No.1 program in efficiency of learning, fullness of curriculum, and cost effectiveness, after spending two years to test 170 language arts programs in the U.S. In addition, in January, 2011, Zoo-phonics won a “Learning Magazine 2011 Teachers’ Choice for the Classroom Award” which is a very prestigious and very well recognised award in the educational market in the U.S.
International School (Age 2 to 6 years)
At Zoo-phonics Academy International School we provide a fully integrated preschool curriculum for children 2 to 4 years of age and kindergarten curriculum for children 4 to 6 years of age. Our programs are designed to promote each child’s physical, social, emotional, academic and cognitive skills development. There are two classes in our preschool program; Missy Mouse Class for children aged 2 to 3, and Robby Rabbit Class for children aged 3 to 4. The Deedee Deer Class is our kindergarten program for children aged 4 to 6. Children are placed in level appropriate classes and move up to the next class based on detailed assessments. Children are academically stimulated and encouraged to participate in class discussion as they progress through the program. And as they gain self-confidence, they expand and develop their creativity, social skills, and self-esteem.

Zoo-phonics® is perfect for your classroom!
- Students gain a firm foundation of the letter sounds and shapes and soon learn uppercase letters and letter names, and how to apply them to text.
- The curriculum is age-appropriate, developmental, sequential and playful.
- It is fully kinaesthetic and multi-sensorial—children use their eyes, ears, mouths and bodies to learn.
- Preschool children will begin sound blending, spelling, and writing by mid-year or earlier.
- It is excellent for ELL/Transition/Special Ed students—a total physical response at its best because of the concrete Animal Letters and Body Movements.
- It teaches those important high frequency words, phonetically and easily.
- It easily teaches other more challenging graphemes/phonemes needed in early reading and writing (blends, digraphs, long vowels, diphthongs, the schwa sound, r - controlled vowels, silent letters, and soft sounds), still keeping learning playful!
- The Animal letters integrate into calendar, alphabet song, favourite songs, art, music, science, math, dramatic play and physical education.
- Parents will love their children’s amazing academic growth, and you can train the parents too!
- Zoo-phonics® provides a complete Language Arts Program that integrates with all other subjects
